The Big Sing has been going since 2000. What started as half baked idea at 3am one Sunday morning, has developed into an alternate take on carolling, attracting in excess of 400 people through the streets of Fitzroy. There's no candles, no musical accompaniement, no santa hats. Just a bunch of people up for a sing through the streets of Fitzroy. We're driven by three simple rules: One in all in. Follow the leader. Sing it like you mean it.
It's free. Anyone can come. You don't have to be a good singer, but you have to sing.
Sure, it's Christmas, so there's going to be some carols....I mean we kind of know them right? But it's not just carols that raise the spirits of the festive season. our signature tune is She'll be Coming 'round the Mountain. Camptown race track gets a run, and the Gambler had risen to become a crowd favourite. Are they carols? No. Are they festive songs? You bet they are.
We raise money during the year for causes that support disadvantaged people through the promotion of art and culture. If you're interested in being a part of the Gertrude players, follow us on facebook, or sign up to receive infrequent emails.
